Dental Implant Healing Time: What to do During the Recovery Period

Dental implant healing time can vary depending on each patient. It can take anywhere from three to six months for the implant to securely fuse with the patient's jawbone. Factors like the person's immune system response to the foreign body can also affect the length of time it takes to recover. The odds of a person's immune system reacting negatively to an implant can be reduced by the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin (LPRF) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). Here are some techniques used to improve dental implant healing time and immune response.

Ways to improve recovery time after implants

1. Platelet-rich plasma

This new approach is becoming more common when dental implants are installed. It is used to speed up the healing time on implants and oral surgery treatments. PRP is particularly helpful for older dental patients who are more likely to develop complications after implants are installed.

PRP is created by running the patient's blood through a centrifuge, filtering out the rich plasma that promotes healthy healing and growth. The use of PRP comes with many benefits like improving the healing time of soft tissues, reducing bleeding and improving bone tissue regeneration.

Platelet-rich plasma has been proven to be effective when dealing with procedures like tooth extractions, gum surgery and the installation of implants.

2. Platelet-rich fibrin

This is a biomaterial that aids soft tissue and bone regeneration. It also helps to prevent the inflammation that typically occurs after surgical dental procedures. PRF improves immune response and also helps to promote maturation, bone growth, and hemostasis.

It is a natural and effective aid used in bone regenerative treatments for elderly patients and the results have been very positive. PRF has been shown to raise the success rate of implant installation to virtually 100 percent.

3. Leukocyte-and platelet-rich fibrin

Here is another biocompatible, natural substance that can be used to speed up the healing time on implants. LPRF is extracted from the patient's blood and it serves as a highly effective way to promote healing and growth. LPRF is often used in dentistry to promote quick bone regeneration and strengthen existing bone structures before performing bone grafting procedures or installing implants.

This material is successfully used to make it possible for those who otherwise would not qualify for implants to generate enough healthy bone tissue to hold these devices in place. To extract LPRF, the dentist will draw a few vials of blood from the patient's arm, then place them into a centrifuge. This device is then used to separate the fibrin from the rest of the patient's blood.

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth. The devices consist of two parts: an implant that is surgically inserted into the person's jawbone and a dental prosthetic like a crown or denture is placed on the external-facing end of the device. The implant inserted into the person's jawbone can be a metal rod or screw. Titanium is often used along with other materials like zirconium.
