Reasons to Visit Our Clinic for Denture Repair

Your dentures should fit snugly and securely and if they are not, we encourage you to visit our clinic for denture repair. Very often, patients live with the inconvenience of loose-fitting dentures and the discomfort that they cause. Thinking that this is an aspect of life with dentures, many of our patients never even ask us about it. This is a mistake because there are many things that we can do to help your dentures fit more comfortably. These services are not something that are provided by every dentist or even the majority of them, so it is important to visit an office that has this type of expertise. We do, and we would be happy to assist you regardless of whether or not we fitted you for your initial set of dentures.

There are several reasons to visit our office for denture repair, including:

#1 Your dentures slipping out of place when speaking.

This is embarrassing and may make it difficult to speak publicly, perform your work duties, have fun with your family, etc.

#2 Eating is difficult.

After you have worn dentures for a while, you should be able to eat without discomfort or them slipping out of place. If you are unable to eat your favorite steak or salad, visit our clinic so that we can determine what is causing the challenge and then fix it.

#3 Your gums are sore.

If wearing your dentures is making your gums sore or causing them to feel irritated, then it is likely that your dentures do not fit properly. It is normal for you to have an adjustment period when first getting dentures, so a couple of weeks of some soreness is to be expected. However, if the soreness lasts past this point, you should visit our clinic for an adjustment or denture repair.

Why Your Dentures Don’t Fit Any Longer

If your dentures used to fit perfectly and no longer do, you probably need a denture repair because of changes that have taken place with your jawbone. Your teeth have an important role to play in the health of your jaw. Beyond giving you the ability to eat and speak clearly, your teeth also provide necessary stimulus for your jawbone. This jawbone stimulus is critical because it tells your body that your jaw is performing its duty to support your teeth. As soon as your teeth fall out, no longer is your jaw receiving the stimulation, and your body will think that it is no longer necessary to keep it as strong. As a result, your body can begin to leach calcium out of the jawbone for use elsewhere. This will directly influence the size and shape of your jaw and your face. Essentially, your jaw will begin to shrink, and as it does, your dentures will begin to feel loose. Initially, these adjustments may seem minor and only slightly irritating but over time they will become more and more pronounced and your dentures may become too loose to even wear.

Regardless of what challenges you face with your dentures, we can assist you by offering a denture repair or replacing them for a better-fitting set.
