All-on-4 Dental Implants

The Main Differences Between All-on-4 and Dental Implants

As the world of dentistry continues to progress, there are now even more ways that people can restore and repair damaged or missing teeth, and one of the most popular ways to do so is through the use of dental implants or a dental implant method known as the All-on-4 method. So, what’s the main difference?

Both the All-on-4 method and the traditional dental implant method are quite similar, and they typically have the same end goal in mind, but the way that goal is achieved tends to be a bit different. When considering your options for restoration and replacement, it is good to be aware of all of your choices. Keep reading to find out the main differences between the All-on-4 method and traditional dental implants.

Traditional dental implants

Dental implants have been a restorative and replacement option for many years now as they offer a great alternative to dentures, which can be big and bulky. Dental implants are small screw-shaped surgical components that are placed within a person’s bone. These components act as replacement tooth structures (roots included) so that a person can have an artificial tooth to replace a missing or severely decayed tooth.

Traditional dental implants require a few appointments because often, if a person needs multiple implants placed, they cannot all be done in one sitting. And even after a dental implant is placed within a person’s bone, they have to heal for a few months before the artificial tooth can be placed. Traditional dental implants can be a complex process, but they are able to offer many benefits to someone in need.

All-on-4 method

The All-on-4 dental implant method differs just slightly from that of traditional implants. Traditional implants can be used wherever within the mouth, but with the All-on-4 method, there are four dental implants placed either on the top or bottom, depending on the need. With the All-on-4 dental implant method, the goal is to replace all of the teeth that are either damaged or missing.

When replacing all of the teeth, with the All-on-4 method, this is more than possible! Most people think that they would have to have a dental implant for each tooth that needs to be replaced, but with the All-on-4 method, all of the teeth can easily be replaced.

The All-on-4 implant method is still executed quite similarly to traditional implants, except an additional oral appliance is used to connect all of the implants together. However, the actual implementation of the implants within the jawbone is still the same as when traditional ones are placed.
